The simple sock pattern - free with a purchase of Colorful Yarn - uses traveling stitches, a technique popularized by the fabulously talented designer Cookie A. I’m fortunate to live within walking distance in Philadelphia of two great yarn stores, and I took a class from Cookie on this technique at one, Loop, owned by Craig Rosenfeld.
Materials: 1 skein of Colorful Yarn Merino sock; #1 needles or size to reach gauge; darning needle.
Gauge: 32 stitches and 36 rows over 4 inches.
Note: Because the pattern travels through the simple technique of increases and decreases, you will need to rearrange the stitches on your needles at least once on the cuff. Knitting two socks at once on two circulars or using magic loop makes this difficult, though not impossible. After turning the heel, knitting two at once presents no problems.
